The title of this month's article is "Implementing a Unit-level Intervention to Reduce the Probability of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia".
The authors in this article give a great review of VAP and describe the second part of a 3-part study on VAP. The focus of their study in this article was on an educational intervention that emphasized some strategies that help reduce VAP on their unit.
Above is the URL for the article and below are some questions to answer. You may also pose some questions yourself if you wish.
1. The authors elude to this in the article but what was their explanation of the educational intervention not being significant enough to affect change?
2. The authors used a convenience sample of patients without VAP; what does it mean to use a convenience sample?
3. The authors used a pre and post-test design with the educational intervention on the convenience sample and a pre and post-test nonexperimental design with the group from the first part of this study to compare with the results from this part of the study. Do you think they could of used a better study design to measure compliance? and could you conceptually describe a better study design that would measure compliance?
